Why Snowboard Equipment Costs Too Much in Calgary
Snowboard gear in Calgary has a serious cost problem. The gear you need new in store to get started costs between $1,200 and $3,000. Add snowboard bindings, boots, a helmet, and goggles and you're well over budget before you even buy a lift ticket. Rentals at ski hills are $100+ per day. For a family of four near Calgary trying to hit Nakiska, Lake Louise, or the terrain parks at WinSport, the math on new snowboard packages just doesn't add up.
The result? Beginner riders get priced out before they take their first turn. Parents looking for kids' snowboards in Calgary hesitate because a youth snowboard package that fits for one season costs almost as much as the adult version. Experienced riders hang onto worn-out snowboard boots and bindings longer than they should because replacing them feels like a luxury. The sport that should be about fresh air and freedom starts feeling like a members-only club.
We started BigM Snowboards because we lived this problem. And we believe the answer isn't cheaper junk from overseas. It's putting affordable, refurbished snowboard gear back into the hands of Calgary riders who will actually use it. That's why we buy, sell, and trade used snowboards, boots, and bindings at prices that make sense for real families.
Boards that cost $800+ new, professionally tuned and ride-ready.
How BigM Keeps You Riding for Less
We source quality used snowboards and gear, professionally tune every piece, and pass the savings to you — so you keep more cash for lift tickets and road trips to the Rockies.
Professional Tuning on Every Board
Every board gets the full treatment: inspected, cleaned, waxed, sharpened, and power brushed with the same equipment used in snowboard shops, so it's 100% ready for the season. Morgan trained directly with Rick at Tools4Boards, a supplier to national downhill race teams. For boards needing more than a standard tune, we refer to Andrew at Glide Factory for his “Diamond Tune.”
Pricing That Actually Makes Sense
Our pricing philosophy is simple: spend less on snowboard gear so you can spend more on lift tickets. We price every pre-owned snowboard, binding set, and pair of boots to be within anyone's budget. Used Burton snowboards, Capita decks, Rossignol, and K2 that would cost a fortune new are affordable and ride-ready at BigM.
Quality Gear Stays Out of Landfills
Working with partners like Andrew at Glide Factory, we make sure boards that need extra work get fully refurbished and restored instead of tossed. When you buy pre-owned snowboard gear from our Calgary shop, you're keeping quality equipment on the mountain and out of the landfill.
Honest Advice, No Sales Pressure
We're not here to sell you the most expensive deck on the wall. With over 25 years of snowboarding experience and a deep network of used snowboard sources across Calgary, Banff corridor towns, and surrounding areas, Morgan helps you buy the right snowboard gear for your riding style and budget, whether you're a beginner or an expert.

Meet Morgan, Rider, Dad, and Founder of BigM Snowboards
Founder, Head Tuner, and Your Local Used Snowboard Expert in Calgary

BigM Snowboards didn't start as a business plan. It started because I was a young dad with three kids who picked up snowboarding at 25 and quickly realized there was no way I could bring my family to the mountain at retail prices. Outfitting four people to ride was out of the question on a regular budget, and I knew I wasn't the only parent in Calgary facing that math.
The real turning point came when my board was stolen from my locked vehicle at the hill. Broken-hearted and feeling violated, I refused to let it stop me. I saved up, bought three used snowboards, kept the best one, and sold the other two to cover my cost. I'd spent years managing a used Levi's store in Edmonton, so buying and reselling came naturally. That first small profit sparked over a decade of learning what the used snowboard market will support and what fair margins look like while keeping prices low enough for anyone's budget.
As the business grew, I expanded into boots and outerwear, and took professional snowboard tuning courses from Rick at Tools4Boards, a local supplier whose clients include national downhill race teams. Rick simplified the key steps to making boards perform in every temperature condition, and I took that knowledge seriously. After tuning hundreds of boards over the years, I even helped a friend reach over 85 km/h on a snowboard, a personal speed goal he'd been chasing. That kind of trust and performance is what I put into every board at BigM.
Today, I think of BigM as a Robin Hood operation for snowboard gear. I collect quality equipment from riders who no longer need it and get it to people who want to start riding, at a fraction of what they'd pay new. I have a network of fellow buyers across Calgary, surrounding ski towns, and the Banff corridor who help me source inventory. And through a partnership with Andrew at Glide Factory, boards that need more work than I can do still get a second life instead of heading to the landfill.
One of the things I'm proudest of is being able to give back. During the season, parents sometimes reach out with very limited budgets asking if I can help get their child on the hill. Because I accept trade-ins, I usually have something around that's only a soft cost to me. I'll spend the time getting a setup ready so a kid can ride for less than the price of a day pass at a bigger resort. BigM was founded because that kind of help didn't exist when I needed it, and I want to make sure it's there for the next family.
